The Dead Sea is one of the most famous tourist destinations because of its high buoyancy and salinity. The sea has been rapidly shrinking due to climate change and droughts. The water levels are dropping fast, and these mineral-rich waters are slowly diminishing.

Glacier National Park

Montana’s Glacier National Park used to have 150 glaciers a decade ago; however, in the 21st century, there are only about 25 left. Due to climate change, the number of glaciers has depleted, and they are due to completely disappear by 2030.

One of the largest mangrove forests in the world, the Sundarbans is located in India and near Bangladesh and is facing major threats due to climate change. Aspects such as rising temperatures have affected the activity of cyclones.

Amazon Rainforest

One of the world’s most remarkable regions, rich in natural resources and wildlife, is the Amazon Forest. It’s also dubbed ‘Earth’s lungs,’ and has become increasingly vulnerable to droughts and wildfires. These events, exacerbated by climate change, threaten its biodiversity, indigenous communities, and the forest’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide.

Maldives

A tropical paradise, and one that tourists flock to every year, is the Maldives. It has been facing an existential threat from rising sea levels that may not be obvious to many. The coral reef is slowly dying, and most of the country’s islands are just a few feet above sea level, making them highly susceptible to even slight increases in sea level.

Alpine Mountains

Another natural wonder facing noteworthy glacial retreat is the Alpine Mountains. Because of climate change, the negative effects on its landscape are due to tourism, changes in biodiversity, and water supply.

Galápagos Islands

The Galápagos Islands have been greatly affected by climate change due to the rise in acidity and ocean temperatures. These changes have all impacted the natural balance and marine life, creating a devastating change in the beauty of its islands.

Great Lakes

Joshua Tree National Park is seeing a decline in its namesake trees due to hotter and drier conditions. These changes threaten the unique desert ecosystem and the variety of species that depend on it.

Victoria Falls

The threat of climate change facing Victoria Falls in southern Africa can be as devastating as the falls one day completely drying up. The drought, brought about by higher weather temperatures and lower water levels, has now been one of the worst in 25 years.

Great Plains

The Great Plains of North America are seeing more extreme weather events. Increased temperatures and changing precipitation patterns are affecting agriculture, wildlife, and the spread of diseases in this vast area.

Tuvalu

They say this will be the ‘first country that will be destroyed by climate change.’ Tuvalu, a stunning island, is vanishing. Located in the west-central Pacific, it’s adorned with the beauty of islands and coastal areas; however, these are disappearing at a rapid rate.

Sahel

Another region based in Africa known as ‘Sahel’ is not entirely popular but is part of the world’s natural wonders. It is also being impacted by droughts due to the change in rainfall activities. There isn’t enough rainfall in this region because it gets hotter every year. Because of this, the inhabitants are also facing issues such as food insecurity and conflicts.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

The glaciers on Mt. Kilimanjaro are rapidly shrinking. The loss of these glaciers not only affects the mountain’s iconic appearance but also the water sources that local communities rely on.
