According to a worldwide survey, says UX Collective, blue is the most popular color in ten countries across four continents. If you observe the colors that a person chooses to wear or the colors that they gravitate to when buying personal items, you can tell a lot about their character.

Psychology Today says that sarcasm is a form of communication intended to convey the opposite of what is said. People who are very observant of others always pick up on sarcastic remarks and can interpret them to understand how a person truly feels.

Eye Contact

Where a person looks and how they hold eye contact can express much about how they feel about a conversation. BetterUp says that eye contact is important (crucial, really) in communication as it helps us bond with others and display honesty. Taking note of someone’s visual contact isn’t something everyone can do.

Posture

The way that someone stands or sits says a lot about their character. Someone who stands or sits with good posture may be more confident and open to conversing. Someone with bad posture might be more introverted. As an observant person, you know how to read posture.

Observant people pay close attention to where a person looks while they’re not engaged in conversation to find out how they feel about others. According to CooperVision, prolonged eye contact can cause attraction, and the more dilated your pupils, the more attractive you seem.

Stress

The American Psychological Association says that around three-quarters of adults (76%) in the U.S. said they have experienced health impacts due to stress in the prior month. A person who is observant can pick up on subtle signs of stress, which will help them understand how others feel.

Facial Expressions

Observing someone’s facial expressions while they speak and while they observe others says a lot about the person and what they’re thinking. By their facial expressions, they could show that they’re happy or unhappy about a certain situation, but it takes an observant person to pick up on this.

Interactions

Inc.com says that the average person has 27 conversations every day, lasting an average of ten minutes each. People who are good at observing others will take notice of these interactions and conversations and will see how a person engages and treats others to learn things about their character.

Gestures

Observing someone’s gestures can help you see how they feel about a situation. A person who gestures a lot might feel quite animated and enthused about a conversation. Someone who doesn’t gesture at all, however, might be disengaged. Observing gestures is something only very observant people do.

Looking at how someone dresses can also give you insight into how they feel about themselves. Observing a person’s style of dress can indicate the kind of lifestyle they live and can even help you guess the kind of job they do. But to do so, you must observe the person closely over several days.

Choice of Words

A person’s vocabulary can say a lot about how they’re feeling. This is why a person who is observant will spend a great deal of time analyzing not just the general message of what a person says but also the words they use to say it.

Tone of Voice

By listening to not just what a person says but also how they say it, an observant person shows that they’re paying attention to detail and can get to know the person better. How someone says something may reveal how they really feel about the matter.

Habits

Habits such as fidgeting can tell you a lot about a person, more than just the fact that they have trouble sitting still. People who are very observant can look at a person’s habits and immediately tell how they feel and why they behave the way they do.

Emotional State

So many of us say that we’re “fine” when, really, we’re not okay. Very observant people can pick up on another’s emotional state and work out how they feel, even when they state that everything is okay. They are not guided by the words, but rather by the emotions behind them.

Routine

Observant people will observe another person’s daily routine to learn about them. They’ll find out how they spend their free time to gain insight into whether the person feels good about themselves or not. A person’s routine also speaks volumes about their work ethic and how motivated they are for their job.

Changes

People who are good at observing others will pick up on sudden changes in a person’s routine. These changes can indicate that something significant has altered in the person’s life. Where they go, who they talk to, and the people they hang out with can all reveal that significant changes have occurred.

The things that a person owns can reveal many interesting things about their character. It can reveal their interests, hobbies, and professions. How they take care of their belongings also shows how seriously they take a hobby and how important it is in their lives.
